CLASSICAL SOLO PIANO

Pianist Xiaofeng Wu earned a bachelor’s degree from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He has been a prize-winning performer since childhood, winning the First State Mozart Piano Competition at the age of twelve. Continuing to win numerous awards, including the Gold Medal at last summer’s Guerrero Foundation International Piano Competition in Madrid, Wu tours and performs by invitation throughout the world. Currently, he is working on his DMA at U-M with Arthur Greene. Classical pieces by Beethoven and romantic pieces by Chopin are included in this program.

Greg McKinney & Friends
Greg McKinney, known often as “Super G” McKinney, has lots of experience in the metro Detroit music scene, playing with many different bands. McKinney loves to play Motown, Rhythm & Blues and Classic Old School. In addition to working at UMHS, he leads this jazz quartet with the Hammond Organ.

FREE JAZZ WITH VISUAL ART

Tom Abbs, bassist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, and visual artist M.P. Landis perform avant garde multi-media music works with film and projections. This performance will include a talk and demonstration about their process as artistic and life supporting collaborators. One of these artists gave one of his kidneys to the other. This performance is made possible through a partnership between the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance, Arts on the Hill Program and UMHS Gifts of Art.

The Jaya Varma Quartet
U-M School of Music Performance Outreach Program
Jaya Varma, a student of the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance, is pursuing a master’s degree in violin performance. This quartet includes Jaya Varma and Ashley Dyer on violin, Dana Huyge on viola, and Jeremy Crosmer on cello. Several Debussy compositions as well as an assortment of lighter classical pieces will be included in the program.

HARP-OBOE DUO

Harpist Laurel Federbush studied music at the University of Toronto and received her DMA from U-M. Sue Owen-Bissiri is a freelance oboist who performs with a myriad of groups. She has music degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Eastern Michigan University. From such talented and classically trained musicians, you can expect to hear outstanding classical solo and duet music for oboe and harp.
