SUMMER CONCERT SERIES in the UH Courtyard begins this month!

SWINGIN' BLUES
The Bluescasters
The Bluescasters' high energy songs draw upon each band member’s 30 years of experience with blues, R & B, and swing music. Using instrumental interplay, storyline lyrics, and vocal harmonies, their songs are animated and engaging. The band features Kerry Adams on guitar; Harry Rodman on drums; Phil Ryski on keyboard, harp, and guitar; and Doug Wolgat on bass, with all contributing on vocals. This concert will feature new original works as well as local favorites.

FIDDLE MUSIC, SONG & DANCE
Saline Fiddlers

The Saline Fiddlers astound audiences every time they take the stage. Founded in 1994, this musical ensemble of Saline Area High School students present an energetic show that includes music, song and dance from the traditions of American folk fiddle, bluegrass, jazz, western swing and Celtic music. Their repertoire, which grows every year, includes many pieces composed or arranged by an exceptionally talented artistic team, headed by the Artistic Director Ben Culver.

CAJUN/ZYDECO MUSIC
The PoBoyz
The PoBoyz is a band with members from diverse backgrounds, all with exceptional talent, who perform on fiddle, guitar, banjo, string bass, accordion and the African djembe drum. They play a mix of traditional fiddle music stretching from the hills of West Virginia to the Cajun sounds of lowland southwest Louisiana. With an eclectic sound all their own, Mark Palms, Mike Zivsak, Chuck Anderson, Randy Markey and Kofi Ameyaw shake it up with sounds from the south.

WORLD JAZZ
The Global Jazz Quartet
The Global Jazz Quartet, previously the Global Jazz Trio, has performed and recorded together for the last 10 years. Mark Hershberger, the group leader, has been performing and composing jazz for over 40 years and has been fortunate to perform, learn and play with great musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Allen, Marcus Belgrave, Doc Holiday and Ed Sarath, just to name a few. Keyboardist Andy Szadyr, Saxophonist Mark Hershberger, bassist Richard Smith and percussionist Muruga Booker create global jazz spanning traditional, ethnic and world jazz.

19TH CENTURY BRASS BAND
Dodworth Saxhorn Band
The Dodworth Saxhorn Band is a recreation of one of America’s first all-brass bands. The original Dodworth Band dominated the New York music scene from 1836 to 1891. Today, Ann Arbor’s own Dodworth Saxhorn Band, composed of up to 17 members, performs period music in 19th century attire using antique brass valved horns and drums built in the 1800’s. They also use drama, poetry, dance, and audience participation to help bring America’s musical past to life.

Edie Herrold with Red Shoes

Enjoy the uplifting, exciting, and soothing sounds of Edie Herrold and Red Shoes as they explore the world of jazz. You’ll hear great grooves from Brazil, the Caribbean, and North America, as well as intricate, intriguing and animated original pieces. Master guitarist Robert Tye and exceptional pianist Dale Grisa join well-loved bassist Edie Herrold on a journey of jazz inspiration.

Five Guys Named Moe
This lively and accomplished quintet collectively brings decades of performing experience to its unique musical arrangements. With Eric Nyhuis on drums; Mary Seelhorst on fiddle & vocals; Myron Grant on guitar, harmonica, & vocals; Jake Reichbart on guitar & vocals; and Nick Calandro on bass, Five Guys Named Moe has a full-bodied and eclectic sound. You’ll hear swing, free-wheeling be-bop, zany humor and much more. Performing some of the best in American jazz, traditional, and popular music, Five Guys Named Moe croons and riffs; they are hot, yet smooth and cool.

CELTIC FOLK TRIO
Cairn to Cairn
Cairn to Cairn features the brilliant forces of vocalist/flutist Kelly McDermott, poet/guitarist Terry Farmer, and bassist/percussionist/vocalist Rob Crozier. McDermott and Farmer are both classically trained, and together with Crozier’s background in jazz and improvisation, these talents merge to create an eclectic blend of Celtic, folk, and world music. With McDermott's virtuosity and explorations into ancient Celtic ballads, Farmer’s poetic wit and rock-n-roll excitement, and Crozier’s expansiveness of sonic palette, this is Celtic folk music with modern texture and global rhythm.

FOLK ROCK TRIO
Souls Alike
Bob Huffman (guitar and vocals), Tracy Huffman (vocals) and Kyle Rasmussen (percussion) together form a dynamite folk-rock trio. Bob Huffman studied music in Hollywood and Boston and is currently a music therapist at Mott Children’s Hospital. Tracy has been a vocalist in bands throughout the Midwest since 1984 and serves as a minister in Ann Arbor. Kyle has played in various bands and community theatre performances, and he works as a psychologist/therapist in Ann Arbor. They’ll play originals and favorites by artists such as Sheryl Crow, Patty Griffin and Sarah McLachlan.
