SELECTIONS FOR THE CELLO

Now fifteen years strong, cellochan is a unique program for cellists that provides an especially supportive and enjoyable environment for study while pursuing excellence, personal fulfillment and artistic growth. Director Suzanne Smith has been teaching and performing for almost thirty years, and her method draws upon her life experiences to create a joyful, self-supporting and service oriented musical program. This performance will include solo pieces by Smith as well as student performances.

The Freshman Touring Company
from the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance
For the past 20 years, the Freshman Touring Company has toured throughout the Michigan area bringing contemporary dance performance to diverse audiences. Under the direction of guest faculty members Jason Dietz Marchant and Lindsey Dietz Marchant, the company will showcase the talents of the current freshman class. This program will include a collection of dance theater works created by both the students and current established New York based choreographers Tami Stronach, Daniel Gwirtzman, and Jason & Lindsey Dietz Marchant, as well as guest choreographer Christian Burns.

ACOUSTIC FOLK POP

Both guitar players and vocalists, Alan Bell and Mike Knight have a friendship that spans more than 10 years. They both have a longstanding passion for playing music with banjos, mandolins, the Appalachian dulcimer and a variety of guitars, including acoustic, electric, resonator and the blues slide guitar. Al Bell, best known as the guitar player for the Cowcatchers, is a baritone, and Mike Knight sings tenor in the duo. When not playing at Bluegrass festivals and performing locally, Bell is Media Coordinator for the U-M Medical School and UMHS hospitals, and Knight runs a video production lab at Washtenaw Community College.

Michael Casher’s musical lineage can be traced back to Mischa Mischakoff, as he studied with his son, Matthew Mischakoff, and lived with the family one summer while he was working at the Sinai Hospital. He performs classical guitar in the Ann Arbor area and is the director of the UMHS Psychiatry Adult Inpatient Program at UH. Soprano Carrie Wilson is a professional cantor who performs regionally in recital and musical theater performances and studies with celebrated tenor, George Shirley, Professor Emeritus of Voice at U-M.
