The William K. and Delores S. Brehm Gifts of Art Therapeutic Bedside Music Program Fund

The Vaughan TrioAs a U-M undergraduate in the late 1940s, Bill performed in a vocal group, the Vaughan House Trio, with a couple of his classmates. "We sang all over campus, often serenading the women in their dormitories and sorority houses, and even performing in variety show concerts at Hill Auditorium,” says Bill, who also led his own big band throughout his high school and college days. Dedicated philanthropists, Bill and Dee Brehm believe in investing in programs where there is both tremendous potential and tremendous need.

Dee & Bill BrehmThey found a wonderful fit with Gifts of Art’s Bedside Music program.  Specially trained musicians play at patients’ bedsides to encourage relaxation, elevate mood and relieve anxiety for over 6,000 patients and families a year. "Music is a wonderful tool for expressing your emotions and letting your worries go, and we are pleased to endow this program," says Bill. Dee adds, “…It fits perfectly with our interests in advancing medicine and promoting music."

Please join the Brehms in supporting art & music at the University of Michigan Health System. Now you may contribute online. For more information, please visit our Donations page.

    Gifts of Art
One of the first and most comprehensive arts in healthcare programs nationwide, Gifts of Art brings the world of art & music to the University of Michigan Health System. During times of stress and illness, the arts have the power to nurture and engage. Gifts of Art programs utilize the arts to assist and enhance the healing process, reduce stress, support human dignity and renew the spirit.
