Carol J. EvertBOTANICALS & STILL LIFES: WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS
Carol J. Evert
Carol J. Evert's vibrant watercolor paintings depict suspended moments of beauty and grace within our often frenetic world. Bold florals and organic elements are juxtaposed with shiny, man-made objects and repeating patterns of light and shadow to engage the viewer in a world that shifts between the two- and three-dimensional. Evert received a B.S. from Eastern Michigan University and continued her education there as a graduate student in watercolor. In addition to widely exhibiting her artwork, Evert is the leader of the Saline Painters Guild and a member of Ann Arbor Women Artists, Michigan Water Color Society, Ann Arbor Arts Alliance, and Cake Eaters of 212 Arts Center.

Bill PocetaART GLASS
Bill Poceta
Bill Poceta is one of the leading studio glass artists working today. He creates one-of-a-kind blown glass vessels that resonate with both past and present. His work is influenced by various glass and ceramic
forms found in ancient cultures including Greek, Roman and Egyptian. Being a former painter, the surface of his work becomes a painting in glass. The reference for his surface designs can be traced to the Minoan culture, 3000 B.C. Although his reference is ancient functional form, his glass vessels are modern and architectural. Poceta’s museum quality work engages the viewer with beautiful forms and surface designs that can be traced to the late Bronze Age.

Kip KriigelFROM THE WINDOW SEAT: COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Kip Kriigel

Kip Kriigel is an avid photographer who believes that interesting photographs can be found in everyday common places, where most people never think of photographing  ̶  places that can be seen in different light, weather conditions and time of day. His philosophy is to always carry a camera. Although his favorite subjects are nature and wildlife in his Oxford, Michigan backyard, Kriigel often travels for work. Flying more than 100,000 miles a year for over 25 years has provided him the opportunity to photograph the world from the perspective of the frequent flyer.

Karen FenwickGOURDS & BASKETS: MIXED MEDIA
Karen Fenwick

Bloomfield Hills based artist and educator Karen Fenwick incorporates nature's wonderful array of gem stones, agates, fossils, plant fibers and precious metals into her basketry and gourd art. Upon the completion of her first basket from a kit purchased at the Greenfield Village gift shop in 2003, Fenwick’s journey and passion took hold as a self-taught artist. Her attention to detail, using various carving techniques with stone inlays and pyrography (wood burning), enhances and makes each piece unique. She is continuously inspired and amazed by the things that come from the earth  ̶  nature's art.

Eaton has studied with well known artists that include Daniel Gerhartz, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Nancy Guzik, Rose Franzen and C.W. Mundy. Her work is shown in galleries, exhibits and private collections throughout the United States. Kay CassillMEDITERRANEO: WATERCOLOR
Kay Cassill

Widely traveled artist Kay Cassill looks for the unusual and the most ordinary views to save in her sketchbook and camera. In her studio, the sketches and photos give rise to watercolor paintings. Whitewashed walls clinging to a cliff and expressive views of a town as seen by a view of a single walkway are details in her paintings that help viewers feel that they were there. Cassill’s postgraduate studies include the University of Iowa, the Art Student’s League in New York City and the Academe de la Grande in Chaumiere, Paris. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York among others. She maintains a studio on Cape Cod as well as in Michigan.

Marvin LipofskyPAPERWEIGHTS & STUDIO GLASS
UM-Dearborn Permanent Art Collection

The American studio glass movement started in 1962 with glass workshops held at the Toledo Museum of Art. The workshops, taught by Harvey Littleton along with scientist Dominick Labino, introduced a small furnace built for working glass that made it possible for artists to work in independent studios. The studio glass movement quickly spread north to Michigan, and in 1982, a decision was made that studio glass would be the focus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn permanent art collection, which is housed at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery. This exhibition is a portion of that collection, spotlighting studio glass art by major artists working in the medium, including Dominick Labino, Marvin Lipofsky and Richard Ritter.

Robert W. ClevelandNATURE'S PRESENCE: MACRO-BOTANICAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Robert W. Cleveland
Robert W. Cleveland was an advertising photographer for 30 years after studying botany at Alma College and art at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. His macro-botanical landscapes allow the eye to travel beneath the surface of reality into a realm of visual surprises of texture, color, light and design. Cleveland sees his photographs as metaphorical, inviting viewers to experience the totality of nature’s presence and the wonderment and tranquility it can evoke. Cleveland resides in Michigan, but also enjoys exploring Hawaii, Japan, Europe, the western United States as well as Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Hank FleischerARCHITECTURAL POLYHEDRONS: RE-PURPOSED PAPER
Hank Fleischer
Hank Fleischer was born in Paris, France in 1923 and came to New York as a young boy in 1930. His career was in engineering, with degrees from the College of the City of New York and Columbia University. A love of art was instilled in him by his father, who drew on his experience as a tailor of fine ladies clothing to create beautiful floral paintings. Fleischer’s designs begin with triangles and bow compasses and are brought to life using re-purposed file folders. He creates geometrical art forms out of the folders by cutting, folding and pasting them by hand. Fleisher’s work has been exhibited, among others, at Huron Valley Council for the Arts, Highland, MI and the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art, Midland, MI.

Carol HannaSONGS OF THE BIRDS: AIRBRUSHED ACRYLICS
Carol Hanna
Mixing science and art, local artist Carol Hanna interprets the songs of birds using visual language that represents the color of the birds and the notes of their songs. The various stripe combinations of vibrating color in each painting represent each individual bird’s measure of time or rhythm, the pitch or frequency of its vibrations per second, and the softness or loudness of its call. Hanna works with the U-M Biology Department to match each bird’s exact color. Hanna has exhibited both locally and nationally, and her works are in permanent collections at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the C. S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital. She received both a BFA and an MA from Eastern Michigan University.

Cheryl DawdyRECONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPES: COLLAGE
Cheryl Dawdy

Ann Arbor artist Cheryl Dawdy received her BFA from U-M and then dabbled in different media (printmaking, weaving, natural dyes) until discovering collage. She adores it for its spontaneity and perfect expression of her “make it up as you go along” approach to life.  Expectation invites disappointment, she contends, but an open mind offers unlimited potential. With that attitude, she works with old postcards, paper scraps, and pieces of old wallpaper washed with acrylic paint, creating landscape images some have described as “wonderful little worlds you want to climb into” and “the stuff of dreams.” Dawdy is also a singer for the Ann Arbor based musical performance group the Chenille Sisters.
