Research Areas

Dr. Lok’s research includes studies on the natural history and treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C, and prevention and treatment of recurrent hepatitis B and C after liver transplantation.

• Hepatitis C Antiviral Long-term Treatment against Cirrhosis (HALT-C) trial

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma – incidence, associating factors, predictive models, and biomarkers
  • Hepatic steatosis and liver disease progression

• Adult-to-adult liver transplantation

  • Outcomes of patients transplanted for hepatitis C and efficacy of pre-transplant antiviral therapy

• Antiviral drug-resistant HBV mutations: incidence and response to rescue therapies

• Hepatitis B patients with normal liver enzymes: liver histology and outcomes

•Eltrombopag in hepatitis C patients with thrombocytopenia, to enable initiation of peginterferon and ribavirin therapy
