GI Physiology and Manometry Laboratory

Located in the University Hospital Medical Procedures Unit, the Gastrointestinal Physiology and Manometry Laboratory provides the following specialized services:

  • Esophageal function testing
  • Gastroduodenal manometry
  • Anorectal manometry
    • testing of pelvic floor neural function
    • constipation and fecal incontinence
    • biofeedback training
  • Sphincter of Oddi manometry
  • Noninvasive Helicobacter pylori testing
    • 13C-Urea breath test
  • Gastric acid secretory testing
  • Secretin stimulation testing
  • Invasive testing of pancreatic exocrine function
    • secretin testing
  • Functional gastrointestinal breath testing
    • lactose
    • glucose
    • fructose, sucrose
  • Colonic transit testing
  • Capsule endoscopy
    • Obscure GI bleeding
    • Iron deficiency anemia
    • Suspected Crohn's disease

Also, in selected cases the following experimental tests are available:

  • Electrogastrography
  • Barostat testing
  • 13C-octanoate breath testing for gastric emptying
  • Ambulatory gastroduodenal manometry
