Medical Procedures Unit (MPU)
Medicine GI, Pulmonary, Pediatric GI, Surgery GI, General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Rheumatology, and Neurology
The MPU performs Upper Endoscopy (EGD), Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, Esophageal Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Ultrasound, Balloon-assisted Enteroscopy, Barrett's Epithelium Ablation Therapy (HALOŽ), Confocal Microscopy (CellvizioŽ), Endoscopic Dilation, PEG Tube Placement, Variceal Banding and Sclerotherapy, Argon Plasma Coagulation, Endoscopic BOTOX Injection, Liver Biopsy, Paracentesis, Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound, CT-guided Bronchoscopy (SuperDimensionŽ), and Needle Muscle Biopsy.
The MPU also includes the GI Physiology Laboratory, routinely performing: Hydrogen Breath Test, Capsule Endoscopy, Esophageal Manometry, Anorectal Manometry, Esophageal 24-hour pH Monitoring, Esophageal Impedance pH Monitoring, Secretin Stimulation Test, and Gastrointestinal Motility Studies.

The primary mission of the MPU is to provide excellent state of the art clinical care and education to our patients and families, and to promote the advancement of clinical research, as relates to the endoscopic and procedural interventions in the fields of digestive and pulmonary assessment and disease.

The MPU is located on the second level of University Hospital. From either the main entrance of the Taubman Center or any level in the patient/visitor parking structure, take the elevator to Floor 2. When you exit the elevator, enter the Taubman Center and turn to your right. Walk straight ahead to the end of the hallway and turn to your left. You will come to a set of elevators. Go through the double doorway on your right across from the elevators. This takes you into University Hospital. Make an immediate right down the first hallway. Continue down the hallway past the chapel, which will be on your right, and into the MPU.
