Pilot Grants Program
The Geriatrics Center, using support provided by the National Institute
on Aging's Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, supports
an annual competition for those seeking pilot grant support to start
a research project focused on aging or diseases of the elderly.
Applicants must be full-time faculty members at the University of
Michigan . Projects are typically funded for $40,000 (direct costs,
plus applicable indirect costs) for the first year, with multi-year
projects also given consideration under special circumstances. A
request for applications, with additional details about format and
relationship to Center initiatives, is typically issued every November,
with applications due in February and funding available for winning
applicants by June. For a listing of prior recipients and their
