Ann Arbor Thrift Shop

Services: Thrift Shop takes referrals from social service case workers on behalf of local residents who need emergency aid for clothing, housing, utility bills, medical or dental care, car repair, or transportation. The individual must be referred by a social service agency.

Services: BenefitsCheckUp is a non-profit Web-based service to screen for benefits programs for seniors with limited income and resources. It includes more than 1,650 public and private benefits programs from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, such as: Prescription drugs, Nutrition (including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP)/Food Stamps), Energy Assistance, Financial, Legal, Health Care, Social Security, Housing, In-home Services, Tax Relief, Transportation, Educational Assistance, Employment, and Volunteer Services.

Catholic Social Services

Services: Medicare/ Medicaid Assistance Program assists all Medicare beneficiaries in choosing a Part D plan for prescription coverage, applying for Extra Help through Social Security, and applying for Medicaid. Volunteer tax assistance program available during tax season.

Department of Veterans Affairs

Services: Help offered to Washtenaw County veterans to apply for all federal veterans pensions and benefits, including: Michigan Veterans Trust Fund, which has emergency funds for housing, utilities, medicine; Veterans Relief, an indigent relief program; assistance with employment assistance, health care, and burial expenses.

Faith in Action

Services: Financial help with heat, electric, water, and rent. Income- qualified families are eligible to receive help when they have received a shut-off notice or notice to quit/eviction. Social work staff will negotiate with utility companies and landlords to clarify expectations. Available only to residents of Chelsea and Dexter School Districts.
Hours: Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Wednesdays 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Friends in Deed

Services: Financial help for unmet needs for Washtenaw County residents, such as housing, utility bills, health and employment-related needs, transportation, childcare, clothing, prescriptions and medical needs. Needs should be those that other humans service agencies cannot meet.

Services: Non-profit company provides confidential credit reports, money management assistance, debt consolidation, pre-purchase forclosure prevention, mortgage and reverse mortgage counseling.

Health Well Foundation

Services: The Health Well Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization that helps individuals afford prescription medications they are taking for specific illnesses. The Foundation provides financial assistance to eligible patients to cover other certain out-of-pocket health care costs, such as: prescription drug coinsurance, co-payments and deductibles, and health insurance premiums. Eligibility is determined by financial, medical, and insurance information.

Services: Hope Clinic has access to limited funds to help prevent evictions, utility shut-offs and other essential emergency needs. Clients must apply to other area agencies first.

Housing Bureau for Seniors

Services: Offers assistance through the following programs:
Housing Counseling: Housing options, including independent, assisted living and nursing homes.
Elderly Eviction Prevention: Assistance to keep renters in their apartment or to help with relocation.
Foreclosure Prevention: Assistance to prevent homeowners from foreclosure due to unpaid property tax or mortgage payments. AARP volunteer tax assistance program during tax season.
HomeShare: Matching of senior homeowners with home seekers interested in renting space.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Jewish Family Services

Michigan Prescription Drug Discount Card

National Kidney Foundation of Michigan

Services: The Prescription Drug Bank provides medications through a mail order pharmacy to the patient’s home. Patient must have kidney disease, be a Michigan resident, and be underinsured or uninsured.

Services: NeedyMeds is 501(c)(3) non-profit with the mission of helping people who cannot afford medicine or healthcare costs. The information is available anonymously and free of charge.

S.O.S. Community Services

Services: Financial assistance is available for utility bills (gas, electricity, water) only when they are in shut-off status. Services: The Washtenaw County Prescription Plan (WCPP) is a discount prescription drug program for County residents of all ages who have limited, exhausted, or no prescription drug coverage.

Services: Affordable prescription program available for financially-qualified individuals 18+. Financial guidelines as of 12/12 are as follows: $21,780 or less per year ($29,420 per couple). Add $300 for each additional dependent. Cannot have other prescription coverage or full Medicaid. May qualify with a discount prescription card or if you have Medicare Part D.

Ypsilanti Thrift Shop
