Since 1978, FRIENDS has been a partner of the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, helping to promote the health, welfare and education of our community.
FRIENDS is a board-governed, volunteer-staffed, non-profit community organization that administers and manages three Health System Gift Shops. The revenue generated from these shops provides funds for patient care programs, amenities and education projects, such as:
- Programs in the Cancer-Geriatrics Center and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
- Trauma Burn Community Outreach programs
- The Health System Child Care Center
- Educational brochures used throughout the Health System and in the Depression Education Resource Center
- Four-year Merit Scholarship Program for medical students
- Social Services emergency fund for patients and families
- Trail's Edge Camp for ventilator-dependent children
- Wilmot House, Transplant House and the Ronald McDonald House
- The U-M Health System Patient Education Committee’s Awards for Outstanding Education
- The Gifts of Art Meditation Garden, and other GOA programs and events
