Opinion polls and popular media have become replete with images of “big, bad” drug companies. What are the bases of these perceptions? Are they realistic or unfair? What are the consequences—for the pharmaceutical industry and for health care in general—when there is an erosion of public trust in the ethical practices of drug companies? What would be required to restore that trust?
