Inspired
in 1992 by the presidential election
debates on health care reform, the
FORUM brings nationally known experts
together with knowledgeable University
of Michigan faculty and experts from
the region for timely, informed presentations.
The FORUM format tries to juxtapose
the voices of different interest groups,
scholars, social science researchers,
policy makers, and program implementers.
Other
general objectives include but are
not limited to the following:
- To
provide a non-partisan, educational
opportunity for the University of
Michigan faculty, staff, students,
and the citizens of southeast Michigan
to study health policy: the substantive
issues, the legislative process and
the political dynamics;
- To
strengthen the ties and working relationship
between the University of Michigan,
health-related organizations, the
U.S. Congress and the State of Michigan;
- To
help shape public and private debate
on critical aspects of proposed health
care reform;
- To
provide information on the impact
of change and new opportunities it
may present to the State of Michigan,
the University of Michigan and its
health care system.
