In an effort to assist UMHS families with food allergy related
issues that may arise, members of the UM Food Allergy Service are
available to provide presentations to schools, preschools and places
of worship. Programs would cover the fundamentals
of food allergy, anaphylaxis, prevention strategies and the impact of the diagnosis
on daily life. In some cases, there may be geographic limitations to our ability
to do community outreach sessions. Also, scheduling would have to be made with
as much
advanced
notice as possible.
In the future, we hope to create a series of classes for UMHS
patients/families. These sessions would cover food allergy related
issues such as labeling and parenting concerns. Speakers and facilitators
would include physicians, nurses, nutritionists and social workers.
