Dr. John Park graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1990 and completed his urology residency training at the University of Michigan Medical Center in 1995. He was named an American Foundation for Urological Disease MD-Research Scholar and studied the molecular aspects of urinary tract development and obstructive pathophysiology.

In 1997, Dr. Park went to the Harvard Children's Hospital in Boston to complete his fellowship training in pediatric urology. There, he worked closely with several outstanding pediatric urologists, notably Dr. W. Hardy Hendren and Dr. Alan B. Retik. In addition to learning the surgical skills necessary to correct common pediatric urological problems such as hypospadias, vesicoureteral reflux, undescended testes, and antenatal hydronephrosis, Dr. Park developed a special interest and expertise in the treatment of complex genitourinary problems including continent urinary diversion, exstrophy/epispadias, complex hypospadias, pediatric tumors and intersex conditions.

In 1999, Dr. Park returned to the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor, and was named Chief of Pediatric Urology in 2002. He was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2003. His primary clinical interest remains the surgical correction of common and complex pediatric urological problems as well as minimally invasive surgery techniques such as laparoscopy and other endoscopic urologic techniques. His NIH-funded laboratory is currently investigating the mechanism of bladder and renal obstruction pathophysiology.
