Quad ScreenThis screening maternal blood test measures the AFP level as well as levels for hCG, estriol and inhibin A. These hormones and proteins are made by the baby and pass through the placenta and into their mother's bloodstream. Interpretation of these levels require an accurate gestational age and the test takes into account the maternal age, weight, and race. Abnormal levels of the proteins means there is a higher risk of general problems with the baby. For both the quad screen and the MSAFP, an abnormal test does not mean the baby has a problem. |
