In 1956, the University of Michigan AEI Sorority was an organization that provided support and encouragement for professional women. As the interest in professional sororities declined and the required maintenance on sorority houses increased, AEI sold their house to the University and placed the money in a trust. As the designated trustee for the AEI Sorority Fund, family physician Dr. Marguerite (Peg) Shearer generously established the AEI Sorority Endowed Medical Student Scholarship Fund to support medical students who choose family medicine as their specialty.
