Our university-based program offers the majority of resident training in outpatient and community hospital settings. Our emphasis on combined university and community training offers residents the broadest possible Family Medicine experience and the greatest flexibility upon graduation.
The University Hospital - The University Hospital, located in Ann Arbor, is a 550 bed tertiary care hospital ranked in the US News Honor Roll of Americas best hospitals for over ten years. The hospital offers the entire range of medical care available including specialty and subspecialty medical and surgical care. The Family Medicine service is exclusively staffed by Family Medicine residents and faculty and provides comprehensive care for patients seen in our continuity clinics.

We are fortunate to have access to a wide array of medical diagnostics including, MRI, CT, Nuclear medicine and interventional radiology in addition to a number of investigational technologies. These resources allow residents to learn about and appropriately apply all of the diagnostic tests that modern medicine has to offer.
The University of Michigan offers outstanding opportunities in every possible aspect of medicine imaginable. Our residents train with leaders in every medical and surgical field and have access to cutting edge diagnostic tests and treatments. The academic center also enhances the evidence-based focus of our training.

Chelsea Community Hospital - is a 113-bed community hospital providing a wide range of inpatient services including a general medical unit, general and orthopedic surgical units, a fully equipped six-bed intensive care unit, a psychiatry ward, a physical medicine and rehabilitation unit, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, a unique head-pain treatment program, and a busy emergency department. Chelsea Community Hospital has in-house and well coordinated 64-slice CT, MRI, ultrasound, cardiac imaging and nuclear imaging well beyond the usual capabilities of a community hospital of this size. The Chelsea Family Medicine (CFM) service is an adult inpatient general medical and ICU service for patients from our family medicine centers. The service also provides inpatient consults to the other medical, psychiatric, and surgical services. CFM allows residents to experience inpatient medicine in a community setting which mirrors how private family physicians practice inpatient medicine and enjoy a collaborative relationship in the hospital with all of the physicians and staff.
