Joseph E. Fournier is a nationally recognized human resources leader and the Chief Human Resources Officer for the University of Michigan Health System. Joe is responsible for the overall people strategy for the Health System and for positioning it as a top destination for outstanding people committed to excellence in medicine, research and education. He leads all facets of human resources and the occupational health, health promotion and wellness programs for the Hospitals and Health Centers.
Prior to joining the Health System, Joe was Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Memorial Medical Group, and Senior Human Resources Officer for UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, Massachusetts. Before transitioning to human resources, Joe was an accomplished attorney and Air Force officer, and has held positions as a military prosecutor, in-house counsel and general counsel for a medical center.

Joe was an adjunct professor in the Master in Health Care Administration program at Worcester State University. He holds a law degree from Suffolk University Law School, a master degree in Health Care Administration from Worcester State University and a bachelor degree in Finance from Providence College. He is an active member of the Health Management Academy, University Health Consortium and American College of Health Care Executives.
