Resources for staff
Efforts in environmental stewardship are made possible by the following U-M Health System and University of Michigan departments' teamwork and dedication:
Facilities Services
Facilities Services includes several sections responsible for various aspects of maintaining the Health System's ability to operate, including Hospital Maintenance, Utilities and Waste Management, Biomedical Engineering, Interior Design and Building Management. Each of these sections have a critical role in supporting the UMHS' efforts to be an eco-friendly facility.
Safety Management Services
Internally, Safety Management Services provides occupational safety, health and environmental stewardship services to the U-M Health System.
SMS also provides consultation, training and education related to fire safety, radiation safety, industrial hygiene and ergonomics
Externally, SMS periodically participates in community events for hazardous waste disposal. SMS works with the U-M Health System Office of Public Relations & Marketing Communications to provide chemical safety communications to the public, such as the June 2004 Health Minute: Poison-proof your home to prevent accidents.
