WELCOME to INSTINCT, ( Increasing Stroke Treatment through Interventional Behavior ChangeTactics), a multi-center clinical trial sponsored by the NIH/NINDS with the goal of increasing the appropriate use of tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) in acute ischemic stroke.

Stroke is a devastating disease. It is the #1 cause of disability in the United States and the # 3 cause of death. Despite FDA approval of tPA more than 10 years ago, only 1-3% of stroke patients in community settings are receiving this therapy.

Along with 24 partner hospitals across Michigan, we are evaluating whether an innovative barrier assessment process, along with educational interventions and staff support can successfully increase the rate of tPA use in community hospitals.

This is an exciting opportunity to improve emergency stroke care and positively impact the lives of many stroke patients and their families. We appreciate your interest in the INSTINCT Trial.
