| Why must I sometimes wait?
We make every effort to treat all patients promptly, but you may
need to wait if there are patients who require immediate attention.
We will do our best to keep your wait as brief as possible. In the
meantime, please be assured that we are aware of your needs and
doing our best to take care of them. Thank you for your patience.
A Unit Host is stationed in the waiting room to serve as a resource
to waiting patients and families. Please do not hesitate to approach
them with any questions or concerns that you have while you are
waiting to be seen. If they are not immediately available, please
see the Triage Nurse.
Registration
When you first arrive, you will be asked to verify your name, date
of birth, telephone number, and primary care physician. This is
the information we need to start your care and to be sure you are
entered into our registration system correctly. At a later point
in your visit, a registration clerk will meet with you to update
information regarding your address and insurance information.
Discharge from the Department
After your care, the physician will counsel you regarding your visit.
Your primary nurse will then review the discharge instructions with
you to make sure you understand all instructions, prescriptions,
and follow up care, if you have any questions or concerns please
discuss them with your nurse. When you are ready to leave, present
to the Main entrance of the ED and the valet staff will bring your
car to you.
Billing Information
Emergency Department patients will receive two bills for the care
they receive. One bill will be for hospital charges such as medications
or supplies that were used the other will be from the University
of Michigan Emergency Medicine Associates for the direct care the
patient receives from physicians.
