ICHIGAN
is the RIGHT CHOICE.
Three high-volume, high-acuity hospitals complete your
experience
Dr. Prepejchal in the resuscitation bay |
- University Hospital – Learn from the best in every specialty.
24 top tier residencies/17 fellowships. And some of the sickest patients
you will ever see, in the biggest hospital complex in the world.
- St. Joseph Mercy Hospital – An ultra-high volume, ultra-efficient
bread and butter community setting. Since the vast majority of emergency
physicians will work in a community hospital, wouldn’t it be nice
to spend more than a month or two of your residency at one?
-
Hurley Medical Center – Everything you want from your inner
city experience: front-line emergency medicine, lots of trauma (20%
penetrating!) and a chance to help one of the most underserved populations
in the country.

Four years for two reasons: critical care and electives
- Our residents do nine ICU months – from neonates to trauma/burn,
there is no patient too sick for us.
Dr. Sozener practicing his bronchoscopy skills |
- A full four months of elective, including everything from observational
medicine to difficult airway. New electives are added every year –
you can even create your own - and the expertise is always available.
A community of excellence
- From the flight program to the football team, Michigan is about being
among the best. In fact, Michigan has eleven top ten schools, including
business, law, social work, and of course, medicine.
- Its not just about pride – its about opportunity – like
multidisciplinary research, graduate classes and unbelievable facilities.
Ann Arbor is not just fine, it’s fantastic!
Socializing at the intern welcome picnic |
- Ann Arbor is consistently voted one of the top ten cities in America,
and has the highest percentage of college graduates of any city in the
country.
- There are 40,000 students at Michigan, nearly half of whom are graduate
students – not only are there literally thousands of great people
to meet, but you won’t be the only person in Starbucks with a
book instead of a Blackberry.
- Single or settled-down, cats or kids, outdoors or on-line, this city
is a wonderful community in which to live – oh, and the weather
is actually pretty much the same as New York, Boston or Chicago - except
here you can get a great place on a resident salary.
