In accordance with medical school guidelines, we aim for roughly 20% honors, 40% high pass and 40% passing grades. Your grade is assigned by the EM Site Directors. Input is obtained from EM faculty, residents, and the written examination. Your grade is determined by approximate weighting of the following factors:
| Clinical performance |
75% |
| Professionalism (including lecture attendance, paperwork, behavior in clinical and nonclinical settings) |
10% |
| Written Exam (70% minimum score) |
15% |
- Consideration will also be given to factors, such as written comments and professionalism and may result in a grade different from a pure numerical calculation. Significant issues with unprofessional behavior may result in course failure. Final determination of the course grade rests solely with the course director.
Grades will be available within 4 weeks after the final exam, at which time students can access their final grade performance evaluation via Wolverine Access.
Multiple EM Rotations
The first EM rotation taken by a student typically meets the EM requirement. The second EM rotation is considered an elective. If the first rotation was not done at UM, HMC, or SJMH, then the only thing the M4 is excused from the second time around is the UMMS SPI. If a student is completing a second rotation through UMHS (UM Adult, UM Peds, HMC, SJMH), then they do not need to do didactics/exam, and grade will be calculated based on clinical evaluations and professionalism.
