Brad Uren, MD - Class of 2006
Congratulations to Brad Uren, MD and Brandi Otto on their recent engagement! Brad “popped the question” on June 14th while he and Brandi were vacationing in the UP. They will be getting married on June 20, 2009.
Colin Greineder, MD – Class of 2007
Colin and Sarah Greineder welcomed their first child, Max Xavier, on January 7, 2007. Congratulations to Colin and Sarah!
Additionally, Colin will be joining the University of Pennsylvania to work as a basic science research fellow in the CRS (Center for Resuscitation Science). Colin will be funded through a 2-year SAEM grant and will be joining the Graduate Group of Pharmacological Sciences.
Eve Losman, MD – Class of 1999
Eve Losman, MD was invited to attend the Council Retreat Meeting for the project leadership of the Geriatrics-for-Specialists Initiative (GSI) to plan for the project’s future growth. The meeting was held February 1-2, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.
Paul DeFlorio, MD – Class of 2005
Paul DeFlorio, MD headed back to Iraq in early January to be an EM physician at the Air Force Theater Hospital, Balad, Iraq. His deployment should be for another 4.5 months. He was also recently married on October 20, 2007 to Amanda Carvell, of Royal Oak, MI. Congratulations Paul and Amanda!
Diann Krywko, MD – Class of 1999
On January 1, 2008 Diann Krywko, MD joined the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Diann had been at Hurley Medical Center for 8½ years and served as the Trauma, CDU, and Residency Site Coordinator.
Geetika Gupta, MD – Class of 2001
Geetika Gupta, MD has been selected to be an ACEP Medical Legal Committee member for 2008. She has served on this committee since 2006.
Manya Newton, MD – Class of 2006
Manya Newton, MD MPH is currently in her second year as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar and has just been awarded a third year of funding. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grants a total of only eight such awards nationally to recognize outstanding and innovative research. Manya is the first Emergency Physician to receive this honor. Additionally, Manya is working on obtaining a PhD in Health Services and Organizational Policy with concentration in Poverty and Inequality through the School of Public Health and is a faculty member at Hurley Medical Center. We congratulate Manya on her accomplishments!
Marc Mickiewicz, MD – Class of 2003
Marc and Marcy Mickiewicz welcomed their second daughter, Megan. Megan joins big sister Maddie. Congratulations to the Mickiewicz family!
Marcia Perry, MD – Class of 1996
Marcia Perry was appointed Assistant Program Director to the UM/SJMH EM Residency Program in September 2007. Marcia previously held the title of Site Coordinator/Hurley Medical Center.
J. Scott Taylor, MD – Class of 2002
In July 2007, Scott and Cheryl Taylor relocated from Brighton, Michigan to Gig Harbor, Washington where Scott joined Good Samaritan in Puyallup, Washington.
Paul DeFlorio, MD – Class of 2005
On Thursday, May 3, 2007, Paul DeFlorio, MD returned to Ann Arbor to give a special presentation at the UM/SJMH EM Residency Conference entitled “War-time Emergency Medicine; the Iraqi Experience”. Paul presented the Department with an American flag which was flown aboard a UH-60 Blackhawk assigned to the 57th Medical Company (Air Ambulance), the “Original Dustoff” which carried wounded in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Rahul (Class of 2004) and Amy Khare
In 2007 Rahul and Amy Khare established the “Khare Academic Scholar Award”. The Khare Academic Scholar Award is a $1,000 travel stipend for one 3rd or 4th year resident interested in pursing a career in academic Emergency Medicine to attend the May Society for Academic Emergency Medicine’s (SAEM) meeting. The first recipient of the Khare Academic Scholar Award was Stefanie Simmons (Class of 2008).
