Under the leadership of William G. Barsan, MD, in 1999 the Section of Emergency Medicine became its own Department. Since then, clinical activity and research funding have continued to increase and the Department has seen an expansion of its education and clinical programs.

In addition to the University of Michigan Health System, we provide physician staffing to Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan and Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan.

Divisions within the Department include Children's Emergency Services, Occupational Medicine and Survival Flight.
