Jonathan Haft, MD
Director of the Extracorporeal Life Support (ECMO) Program at UMHHS

Jonathan Haft, MD is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery in the section of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan. His clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery, cardiothoracic transplantation, implantable ventricular assistance, and surgical critical care. His research interests include development of an implantable artificial lung for prolonged pulmonary support, modifications to extracorporeal circuits to reduce thrombogenicity, and design of novel implantable blood pumps.

Dr. Haft brings with him experience in Surgical Critical Care, Cardiothoracic Surgery and ECMO. He obtained his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991, and subsequently received his medical degree from the University of Miami in 1996. He then arrived at the University of Michigan for his surgical training. He completed residency programs in General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is currently a member of the American College of Surgeons, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and The American Society of Artificial Internal Organs.

Co-Directors:

Kimberly W. McCrudden, MD
is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery in the section of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Michigan.  Her clinical interests include extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), minimally invasive surgery, pediatric critical care, and surgical education.

Dr. McCrudden brings with her experience in pediatric surgery and ECMO.  She obtained her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in molecular biology.  She obtained her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and subsequently completed her training in general surgery at the affiliated New York-Presbyterian Hospital.  While in New York, she also completed a two-year ECMO fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian.  Following completion of her general surgery training, she arrived at the University of Michigan where she completed her pediatric surgery fellowship.  She is currently board-certified in general surgery and board-eligible in pediatric surgery.  She is a candidate member of the American College of Surgeons.

Gail Annich, MD
is currently an Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. She also is
Pediatric Co-Director of Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS,ECMO) Program, and the Head of the Pediatric CPR
Committee. Her clinical interest are in extracorporeal life support (ECMO), extracorporeal circulatory devices,
coagulation/anticoagulation, drug pharmacokinetics on extracorporeal life support, respiratory failure, and lung
disease. Her research interest include blood biomaterial surface interactions, biomimetic surfaces for extracorporeal
circulation and extracorporeal life support (ECMO) coagulation/anticoagulation.

Dr. Annich brings with her experience in Pediatrics, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and ECMO. She obtained her B.M.S. from the University of Alberta in 1986, as well as her M.D.in 1988. In 1994, Dr. Annich completed her Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, from the University of British Columbia, B.C.Children's Hospital. In 1995, she completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto, The Hospital for Sick Children. In 1997, she completed her M.S.P.H., at the University of Michigan. Dr. Annich is certified in Pediatrics (US & Canada) and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (US & Canada).
