| Management of Mechanical Complications - DVD
The University of Michigan Health System’s ECMO Program is committed to academic collaboration and education along with other ELSO Centers on the care of patients on extended extracorporeal support.
To this end, the UMHS ECMO program has for purchase a Management of Mechanical Complications DVD for sale to ECMO Programs for the sole intent of assisting in the training of bedside Specialists.
The DVD imparts the importance of education, staff vigilance, responsibility, skills training, preparation, and continued readiness in handling any and all emergencies. It in no way is meant to endorse any one type or combination of equipment, procedure, type of support or support device or specific intervention. It also does not imply that by watching this video that one would then be certified or prepared to care for a patient on extended extracorporeal support. This DVD is also not meant to take the place of policies or procedures unique and applicable to each institution’s ECMO program.
At present the formats available are DVD-R and DVD+R. The DVD+R plays best on computers and laptops, and the DVD-R plays best on home DVD players.

The University of Michigan ECMO Program offers for sale an educational ECMO DVD titled "Management of Mechanical Complications". The DVD is now for sale through our office. The 7 chapters included in the DVD are:
- Management of Mechanical Complications - Intro
- Circuit Inspection
- Air in Circuit Emergencies
- Circuit Rupture
- Servo Regulation Emergencies
- Pump Failure
- Oxygenator Failure
The DVD is intended for use by ECMO Programs in training both new ECMO Specialists and for review to maintain competency of current staff. It is not intended to take the place of hands on training nor other lecture or didactic approaches to training.
Not all ECMO Programs may be using equipment shown in the DVD, however the concepts of vigilance, responsibility, training, review and preparation, applicable across all ECMO Programs, are emphasized in the DVD. |
