Pediatric and Adolescent Pre-Diabetes Clinic
Director: Josephine Z Kasa-Vubu, M.D.
A pre-diabetes clinic evaluation includes:
- Comprehensive evaluation for endocrine or metabolic conditions that would cause weight gain (pre-diabetes)
- Treatment of any identified metabolic/endocrine disorders
- Referrals for lifestyle changes to improve health/treat complications
Pediatric obesity is seldom the result of endocrine abnormalities, but for some children with significant insulin resistance and carbohydrate intolerance, there is the potential of early type 2 diabetes. Obesity is a sensitive topic for parents, who often feel blamed or misunderstood. We aim to provide a supportive environment along with a thorough medical evaluation.
Our purpose is to evaluate, recommend treatment, and identify any health risks. This is not a "weight loss" clinic, but we will make referrals when this is essential to good health.
