Patient Care

Our clinical staff includes internationally recognized experts that specialize in the prevention and treatment of diabetes as well as its complications. Our team cares for adult and pediatric patients.

Research

We conduct research on all forms of diabetes and collaborate with many researchers here at the
U-M and beyond. At our new Brehm Center for Diabetes Research, we conduct two main types of research:

Basic research, often referred to as bench research, is underway in over 30 laboratories, where our faculty examine the underlying causes and treatment of diabetes, as well as the complications of the disease.

Clinical research, conducted generally in humans, allows scientists to take the knowledge gained in the lab and translate this into clinical trials in humans, which can prove which therapies are the best ones for patients with diabetes.

Our Research Sister Centers

Across the University of Michigan Health System and beyond, we collaborate with many research centers and units. Our main "sister" centers include:

Animal Models of Diabetes Complications Consortium
Center for the Study of Complications in Diabetes
Michigan Diabetes Research Center
Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center/Michigan Nutrition and Obesity Research Center
