Recent advances in laboratory instrumentation and methodologies (i.e., quantitative real-time RT-PCR and laser capture microdissection) allow reliable molecular and biochemical measurements from small tissue samples. Taking advantage of these sophisticated and sensitive technologies, we have started to make a molecular description of acne inflammation in humans. Molecular and biochemical examination of different types of acne lesions and how effective drugs and device-based treatments (laser or PDT) affect these parameters are being investigated. Acne-like eruption often seen in cancer patients with epidermal growth factor antagonists therapy is also a focus of our research.
