Recent advances in laboratory instrumentation and methodologies (i.e., quantitative real-time RT-PCR and laser capture microdissection) allow reliable molecular and biochemical measurements from small tissue samples. Taking advantage of these sophisticated and sensitive technologies, we have started to make molecular description of acne inflammation in humans. Molecular and biochemical examination of different types of acne lesion and how effective drugs and device-based treatments (laser or PDT) affect these parameters are being investigated. Acne-like eruption often seen in cancer patients with epidermal growth factor antagonists therapy is also a focus of our research.
