He obtained his PhD from Akita University School of Medicine, Akita, Japan. Dr Quan has also received a MD degree from Norman Bethune University Medical Science, ChangChun, China. Dr Quan was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Akita University in Japan from 1991- 1992 and continued his fellowship at Wayne State University in Michigan from 1992-1995 before joining the Department of Dermatology in 1996 as a postdoctoral fellow. During his fellowships, Dr Quan elucidated transcriptional regulation of skin specific protein kinase c-eta (PKC-&eta). Dr Quan's medical background is a major driving force for his interests in scleroderma and aging research. His current focus is on the mechanism of collagen regulation by TGF-β and CYR61 in human skin fibroblasts. In 2002, Dr Quan was promoted to his current faculty position. He has been awarded Nathan Shock Center for the Biology of Aging and American Dermatology Foundation grants.
