Biography

Dr. Fullen received his undergraduate degree from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York, in 1982, a M.M.Sc. degree in Clinical Microbiology from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia in 1986, and his M.D. degree from Emory University in 1990. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991. He served as a Medical Officer with the United States Navy attached to the 2nd Marine Division, United States Marine Corps from 1991 to 1994. He completed his residency training in combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1998, and a fellowship in Dermatopathology at The New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell University Weill Medical Center, New York, New York in 1999.

In 1999, Dr. Fullen was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of the Albany Medical College, Albany, New York, where he served as a staff dermatopathologist. In 2000, he joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Michigan, as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He was appointed to the Director of Histology in 2001, in addition to his responsibilities as a staff dermatopathologist. In 2005, he was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Dermatology, and assumed directorship of the dermatopathology fellowship training program.

Dr. Fullen has been actively involved in clinical service, self-directed and collaborative research projects, and education of medical students and residents in Pathology and Dermatology. He received the William B. Taylor Resident Teaching Award from the Department of Dermatology in 2002 and the Resident Teaching Award from the Department of Pathology in 2006 for his outstanding contributions to teaching Dermatology and Pathology residents.
