Team Leaders

Scott Kim, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with appointments in the Bioethics Program and the Program for Improving Health Care Decisions. He receivedhis graduate school educaiton at University of Chicago, and medical school training at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include decision-making competence and neuropsychiatric illness, ethical issues in high-risk research, and the integration of normative and empirical approaches in bioethics policy.

Marcia Valenstein, MD, MS is Assistant Professor in the department of Psychiatry. After completing her undergraduate education at Northwestern University and Harvard University, she attended the University of Illinois Medical School and received her psychiatry residency training at Duke University Medical Center and University of New York at Stony Brook. Her research interests include mental health services, disease management, provider behavior, and patient adherence to treatment.

Psychiatry

Kevin Kerber, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. He completed both his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Michigan. He served as chief resident during his residency training and joined the faculty in 1984. He served as Medical Director of the Managed Care Program prior to his work in the Ambulatory Division and Depression Center. He was honored with the title of Teacher of the Year in 2000 for his outstanding teaching of residents in Psychiatry. His principle interest within psychiatry is in the area of men's psychology and depression outreach and collaborative care.

Lisa Seyfried, MD is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her psychiatry residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital where she served as chief resident. She is now a Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Her academic and clinical interests include mood disorders in women and consultation-liaison psychiatry.

Nursing

Charlotte Allport, MS, RN, NP has worked in psychiatry since 1989, starting on the adult inpatient psychiatric unit at the University of Michigan. Prior to working in psychiatry, she worked in both medical-surgical nursing and in home care/hospice. Currently, she is a Care Navigator with the Depression Center's M-DOCC program and co-facilitator with the outpatient dialectical behavioral therapy group. Charlotte is also enrolled in the University of Michigan School of Nursing Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program.

Julie Kuebler, MS, RN, NP has worked in Psychiatry at the University of Michigan on Adult Inpatient and Child/Adolescent Inpatient Units since 1984. She is currently a staff nurse in Adult Outpatient Ambulatory Psychiatry. Julie is a Care Navigator for the Depression Center's M-DOCC program and coordinates the Meds Plus Clinic. Julie is enrolled in the University of Michigan School of Nursing Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program.

Social Work

Wendy Jaffe, MSW, ACSW is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where she received a Bachelor of Science degree, and the University of Michigan where she received her Master’s of Social Work degree in 1982. She had clinical experience as an individual and family therapist in a family service agency before coming to the University of Michigan Medical Center in 1989. She enjoys working with people of all ages and has extensive experience with women and children experiencing depression and anxiety.

Sandra Loyer, MSW, ACSW earned her undergraduate degree from Ohio University, and her Master’s of Social Work from the University of Michigan. She spent eight years as a preschool teacher before joining the McAuley Health System in Ann Arbor as a social work supervisor. She joined the University of Michigan as a clinical social worker in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1984. Sandra specializes in working with individuals and families experiencing chronic illness or disability. She offers short and long-term therapy in family systems, as well as crisis intervention.
