Pilot Innovation Grants Program
This program is available to Depression Center Members to support innovative research projects. The Center provides resources for and financially administers projects funded by this program. The Pilot Grants Subcommittee reviews and recommends proposals to the Executive Council which makes final award determinations. Please e-mail questions about the program to: DC-Innovation-Fund@med.umich.edu.
Purpose
The Pilot Innovation Grants Program is intended to support new research projects aimed at obtaining sufficient preliminary results to facilitate submission of extramural support. Only projects that enhance collaborative, interdepartmental research and include plans for extramural funding will be considered.
Eligibility
The Pilot Innovation Grants Program is available only to enrolled members of the University of Michigan Depression Center. Active Faculty and Members-in-Training who have Active Faculty sponsorship are generally eligible to apply. Specific eligibility guidelines will be issued with each Request for Proposal announcement. The applicant must certify availability of effort to conduct the project.
Funding and Project Duration
The Depression Center Executive Council provides support for the Pilot Innovation Grants Program and sets award limits as funds become available. Funding is typically awarded for one year. IRB approval of the protocol and other applicable regulatory approvals is required before funds are awarded. Applicants are encouraged to utilize and, if eligible, to request access to resources provided by the Depression Center that would aid their research project, such as the Center’s programs to recruit patients, normal controls and families; patient registries; Biomedical Informatics consultation and data management; the Prechter Bipolar Genetic Repository; Depression and Bipolar screening programs; participation in other ongoing research projects such as in the Sleep Laboratory, Neuroimaging protocols; self-management protocols; educational materials, and others.
