Frontiers in Cardiovascular Science Seminar Program
The University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center (CVC) is sponsoring the 2009 Basic Science Research Seminars entitled "Frontiers in Cardiovascular Science."
Program structure
The format is a weekly, 1-hour scientific seminar that is scheduled in the CVC Danto Auditorium, Room 2314, from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m
Intended audience
The intended audience is faculty, staff, residents, fellows, graduate students and medical students from across the University of Michigan including but not limited to Cardiovascular Center departments and sections (Cardiovascular Medicine, Center for Arrhythmia Research, Molecular Medicine and Genetics, Radiology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Neurology, Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery), Life Sciences Institute, Biomedical Engineering, School of Public Health, and the Program in Biomedical Sciences (Bioinformatics, Biological Chemistry, Biophysics, Cell & Developmental Biology, Cellular & Molecular Biology, Human Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology & Immunology, Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology, Molecular & Cellular Pathology, Molecular & Integrative Physiology, Neuroscience and Pharmacology).
Objective
This program is for physicians, scientists, nurses, physician’s assistants, medical students, graduate students, residents and fellows working in the areas of cardiovascular science and medicine. This activity is meant to communicate the newest advances in basic cardiovascular research, improve communication, and foster collaboration between basic and clinical scientists.
The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Michigan Medical School designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Program content
The seminar is a comprised of current CVC Basic Science Seminar Series combined with the several Program Project Grant (PPG) seminar series. The series will include discussion topics from each of the following programs:
- The monthly CVC Basic Science Research seminar series sponsored by the CVC Basic Science Research Team (team co-coordinators are Dr. Lori Isom and Dr. Margaret Westfall), and is organized by Dr. Anatoli Lopatin.
- Dr. David Ginsburg’s PPG: “Molecular Genetics of Coagulation Disorders”
- Dr. Daniel Lawrence’s PPG: “Novel Targets in Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis”
- Dr. Jose Jalife's PPG: “Arrhythmia mechanisms in 2 Inherited Diseases (ARVC, CPVT)”
- Dr. Jose Jalife’s PPG: “Intercellular Communication and Impulse Propagation” NIH Program Project Grants.
