Stress Management
Understanding Stress
Stress is so common these days, yet it comes with a cost to health and well-being. While a certain amount of stress is tolerable and can even be a motivating force, too much can begin to wear you down, causing or aggravating symptoms such as angina, high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, pain, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances and headaches. Stress can leave you feeling irritable, overwhelmed and exhausted. In addition, what many do to cope with stress, such as excessive eating, smoking, alcohol and substance use, can further increase your health risk.
There is much you can do to manage stress more effectively. Although you can’t eliminate all external stressors, anyone can learn to respond more positively to stress and reduce its negative effects. By doing so, you can become happier, healthier and more effective at managing your life amidst any circumstances.
U-M Cardiovascular Medicine at Domino's Farms considers stress management to be an essential component of wellness. We offer individual and group services for patients, their families and the community to help reduce stress and enhance health. All programs are held at the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic at Domino's Farms.
Individual Stress Management Consultations

Individual consultations are available anyone who wishes to be personally instructed in stress management coping skills. Sessions may include strategies for life balance, instruction in relaxation techniques, such as mindfulness meditation, guided imagery, bodyscan, breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, and EFT, and coaching to implement behavior change. This is a good option for people who are more comfortable working in a one-on-one format and want a program tailored to their individual preferences and needs.
Our highly trained stress management specialist helps clients set and achieve their stress management goals, and assists them in integrating stress reduction techniques into their daily lives. Individual stress management sessions are 1 hour in length and can be scheduled through the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic at 734-998-7400.
