Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Innovation Challenge?

The Cardiovascular Center Clinical Value Innovation Challenge offers an opportunity for faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and families to design and implement novel solutions to improve the quality (safety, efficacy, timeliness, efficiency, patient centeredness, equitability) and cost of patient care in an interdisciplinary fashion.

How does the Innovation Challenge work?

There are four phases of the Challenge:

Proposal Submission: Anyone may submit a proposal. Participants will form a multidisciplinary team for collaboration. Patients and families can submit ideas via a Qualtrics survey or suggestion box and will be invited to join the on-line community (optional). Participants will be encouraged to engage with their fellow innovators via comment/suggestion boxes.

Crowd-Sourcing: Submitted proposals will be viewable by the FCVC virtual innovation community. Members of the community will comment/make suggestions to improve ideas, share relevant information, etc.

Contest Event: The top teams will pitch their ideas to expert judges and an audience of staff, faculty, trainees, patients, and family. The event will take place October 26, 2017 from 4-6 pm in the Danto Auditorium.

Sustainability: The CVC will invest funding and support in the winners to ensure success and follow-through of the winning proposals.

When does the Challenge start?

Submission: The Challenge will open for submissions starting Tuesday, August 1st. All ideas must be submitted by Thursday, August 31st at 11:59 EST. Finalists will be notified the week of October 2nd.

What if I don’t have anyone to collaborate with?

The beauty of this online challenge is that you can find colleagues to collaborate with through the innovation platform. Participants are encouraged to communicate with each other by using the comment boxes, and our hope is that teams will form around common interests and ideas.

If I can’t think of an idea, are there still ways for me to participate in the Innovation Challenge?

Absolutely! You can spread the word about the challenge to your friends and colleagues, you can log into the crowd source platform and comment on other proposals, and you can also attend the contest event on October 26, 2017 from 4-6 pm.
