The W.K. Kellogg Eye Center is a leading center for eye care, education, and vision research. Part of the University of Michigan Health System, Kellogg ophthalmologists provide exceptional vision care, from routine eye examinations to specialized treatment unavailable in many communities. The Kellogg specialists have conducted over 128,000 patient visits and performed more than 5,600 surgical procedures.
The Eye Center provides many opportunities for ophthalmic technicians in Michigan, and the need for technicians will grow as Kellogg begins a major expansion project. In the coming years, our clinics will be located in a beautiful new building adjacent to the current facility. Kellogg also serves patients in its community clinics in Ann Arbor, Brighton, Canton, Livonia, Milford, West Bloomfield, and Ypsilanti.
Ophthalmic technicians are allied health professionals who work closely with patients and assist some of the best ophthalmologists in the country. As an ophthalmic technician, you will enjoy being part of a team in a career that offers flexibility, growth, and many opportunities for continuing education. Typical responsibilities include: taking patient histories, eye measurements, administering diagnostic tests and eye evaluations, explaining treatment procedures to patients, assisting with eye surgery, providing contact lens education and administering eye medications. Career opportunities for ophthalmic technicians also exist in clinic management, research, technical writing, training, sales and consulting.
