Research on the Quality of Cancer Care in Diverse Populations

Lawrence C. An, MD

Lawrence An, MD, is general internist and associate professor of Internal Medicine, as well as Scientific Director of the Cancer Survivorship Program at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Care Center. As Director of the Center for Health Communications Research, Dr. An oversees an established multi-disciplinary group of behavioral scientists, computer programmers and design experts that has developed over 60 programs utilizing a wide array of technology and communication channels. He has a background in the development and evaluation of efficacious personally tailored health communications programs and has also worked extensively in the areas of clinical guideline implementation, quality improvement and health systems change. Dr. Anís research has focused primarily on tobacco control in the areas of clinical guideline implementation and health systems change, design and evaluation of statewide tobacco cessation services, and development of innovative web-assisted tobacco interventions, with an emphasis on youth. Dr. An serves as director of the Communication and Dissemination Core on the CanSORT Program grant and works closely with program project investigators and other core leaders and team members to develop, deploy and evaluate an online, comprehensive decision tool for breast cancer patients and a dissemination website designed for clinicians.
