Welcome to Judy's Place!
Dedicated on December 6, 2004, Judy's Place is a special space designed from a child's point of view.
Located in the main clinic reception area on Level B-1 of the Cancer Center, Judy's Place offers a special haven just for young children. Whether waiting for a parent or relative with a clinic appointment, or waiting for their own time with the doctors, youngsters can step into Judy's Place to play, read or simply take a break from the clinic environment.
The unique design of Judy's Place allows for both the privacy and the adult oversight of children, allowing kids to explore, relax and play. Designed with an "underwater" theme kids love, the space features unique "porthole" windows that allow kids and grown-ups to keep an eye on each other. A floor-to-ceiling mural of underwater life covers one entire wall, and furnishings and toys were also selected to "transport" children to an undersea adventure without leaving the Cancer Center. (see pictures below).
Judy's Place was inspired by the life and good works of Judy Robinson, a U-M patient who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1994. Husband Ken and the Robinson family wanted to honor Judy's memory while celebrating her zest for life and love of children. The result is a bright, inviting space bustling with children at play.
