SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - As part of Hiller's Markets Good Deeds in the Making program to benefit local charities during these challenging economic times, the family-owned chain of seven metro Detroit grocery stores will donate 100 percent of the profits from the sales of its popular Polly's Baked Spaghetti to the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center throughout the month of November.

This homemade baked spaghetti is prepared with the finest meat sauce and baked to a golden brown with a delectable six-cheese topping. The product retails for $4.98 per pound at all Hiller's locations.

Hiller's Good Deeds in the Making program was created in 2009 as a way to inspire consumers to purchase high-quality, ready-to-eat, great-tasting meals while helping good causes in their communities. This month's charity, the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, is dedicated to the conquest of cancer through innovation and collaboration. Hiller's donation will benefit the Cancer Center in support of the research of Elizabeth Lawlor, M.D., Ph.D. Since 2004, Lawlor has led her own research group, focusing on studies of pediatric cancers, such as Ewing's sarcoma, a very aggressive bone and soft tissue tumor that primarily affects children, adolescents and young adults.

"As a company, we're staunchly committed to aiding cancer research," Justin Hiller, vice president of Hiller's Markets, says. "Unfortunately, nearly everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another, but I am hopeful that won't be the case for future generations. Dr. Lawlor's work brings us one step closer to that goal."

"Hiller's has an outstanding reputation in the community and we are so pleased and honored that Hiller's has chosen the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center as its November Good Deeds recipient," says Debra Griffith, director of development for the U-M Cancer Center. "One-hundred percent of the donation will directly support Dr. Lawlor's work to fight cancer, notably Ewing's sarcoma."

Founded in 1941, Hiller's Markets has established a stellar reputation and earned a loyal customer following based on extraordinary quality, exceptional selection, extreme value and exemplary customer service. Hiller's proudly showcases Michigan products with special shelf tags and partners with charities and organizations through cash register campaigns, Scrip partnerships and many other collaborative community campaigns. Hiller's Markets are located in Ann Arbor, Berkley, Commerce Township, Northville, Plymouth, Union Lake and West Bloomfield.
