Ovarian Cancer affects the ovaries -- and in some cases the fallopian tubes. The ovaries and fallopian tubes are a part of a
woman's reproductive organs which produce steroid
hormones as well as eggs, called ova. Ovarian cancer usually occurs after menopause. In fact, 50% of ovarian tumors occur in women
aged 40 to 60 and 40% over age 60.
Fallopian tube cancer is one of the rarest of cancers, making up 1% of all gynecologic cancers.

Patient Care and Treatment
The Gynecologic Oncology Program at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center provides diagnosis and treatment to those with all types of gynecologic cancer, including ovarian cancer and cancer of the fallopian tubes. The Multidisciplinary Gynecologic Oncology Clinic follows a team approach to care. Our patients have their situation discussed not only by our gynecologic oncologists, but also by team surgeons and pathologists. By having everyone involved, a personalized treatment plan is developed. In most cases, this discussion happens the same day as the appointment.We also offer a Breast & Ovarian Risk Evaluation Program for those diagnosed with ovarian cancer -- or for those concerned with they are at risk for this type of cancer.
