MICHR Names Marita Titler Associate Director, Community Outreach
The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research is pleased to announce that Marita Titler, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named to the newly-created faculty post of Associate Director for Community Outreach, effective October 1, 2009.
"We are thrilled to have Marita join my leadership team at MICHR," says Ken Pienta, MD and MICHR Director. "Her extensive experience and positive energy will have a tremendous effect on our efforts to enable and enhance clinical and translational research."
MICH's Community Outreach group works to identify and develop effective partnerships between academic researchers and community stakeholders, and allows for participation, discovery, application, and dissemination of science, through a variety of mechanisms designed with and for the community to generate translate research and its findings from bench to implementation. The ultimate aim is to improve the public's health and reduce health disparities by working with communities to find ways to move proven technologies and therapies more quickly out into community settings so that they improve health, especially for the medically underserved. In this role, Dr. Titler will provide substantive input to the direction and strategic planning for MICHR as a whole, and she will have authority over the scope, governance structure, and priorities of MICHR's community outreach and engagement efforts.
Dr. Titler is also Associate Dean for Practice and Clinical Scholarship, Rhetaugh Dumas Endowed Chair, for the School of Nursing and UMHS. Before joining U-M, she was Senior Assistant Director at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), Director of Research, Quality, and Outcomes Management in the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care at UIHC, and Clinical Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing.
