Dorene Markel Transitions to New Role in MICHR
MICHR Managing Director Dorene Markel, MS, MHSA, will be transitioning to new positions in the Medical School and MICHR. For the past year, Dorene has been splitting her effort 70% with MICHR and 30% with the Brehm Center for Type 1 Diabetes, and the work in both of these areas has grown tremendously.
As a result, effective November 1, 2009, Dorene will be stepping down as Managing Director of MICHR, and will then devote 70% of her effort as Managing Director of the Brehm Center. As part of this reconfiguration, MICHR Director Ken Pienta, MD has created a new role for Dorene within MICHR with 30% of her effort as the new Associate Director for Alliances and Collaborations. Within that 30% effort, 10% effort will be protected for her scholarly activities tied to her faculty appointment in the Medical Education department and she will remain PI of her NIH Partners in Research grant.
Dorene's new responsibilities will include serving as a member of MICHR's Senior Leadership Cabinet and provide advice and guidance on the direction of MICHR, along with the other Associate Directors; reaching out to other universities awarded CTSA grants, to foster collaborations and relationships for MICHR on a national level; reaching out to scientific coalitions and other national organizations, to foster increased collaborations with MICHR; building ties to healthcare insurers and industrial sponsors; identifying new partnerships with other centers, programs, departments and institutes at the University; and in conjunction with the MC Development Office, foster increased philanthropic opportunities that support the mission of MICHR.
