U-M in the News: Scientists Grow Nerves from Stem Cells Along Nanofibers to Aid Research on Neurological Disease

by Kara Gavin, UMHS PRMC

Can you grow nerves in a dish? Not quite yes, but researchers from U-M's Neurology and Biomedical Engineering departments and their colleagues at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and University of California are working toward that goal.

Services Update: Flow Cytometry Drives Innovation Through Enhanced Analysis & Sorting Offerings

Flow Cytometry Core Photo

The Flow Cytometry Core and Biosafety Containment Core are teaming up to enhance your research experience. The Biosafety Containment Sorter, a BDBiosciences FACSJazz cell sorter began operations in November.

In addition to the new sorter in Biosafety Containment, the Flow Cytometry Core has added an expanded fleet of instrumentation and increased investments to place all sorters inside biosafety cabinets.

"All sorters have been replaced or upgraded in the past year," explained Dave Adams, Flow Cytometry Core Manager. "A strong challenge here has been fulfilling the need of researchers who work with primary human tissues. With the University's investment in the core, we are now able to meet that need."
