

Mission StatementThe Michigan Bowel Control Program (MBCP) is a multidisciplinary consultation service dedicated to the treatment of patients and families affected by pelvic floor dysfunction and defecation disorders. Participating departments include Colorectal Surgery, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Nursing, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and GI Physiology. Their collaborative efforts facilitate dynamic and innovative approaches to improve patient care. The MBCP offers a range of services from integrated initial diagnostic evaluation, to recommendations for treatment, to coordination of appropriate medical, behavioral, or surgical therapy. The MBCP staff ensures patient access to educational materials and experienced professionals to better understand medical issues and possible treatment options. Multidisciplinary expertise allows for the seamless integration of services. The ability to perform and synthesize research offers patients the newest approaches to medical treatment and surgical intervention. Research driven outcome data allow for continuous quality improvement in providing comprehensive care. Above all, we endeavor to improve quality of life by improving bowel control in a currently underserved population. |
