Dr. Benedict's research activities involve investigation of the effect of cardiopulmonary bypass on cytochrome P450 mediated drug metabolism, investigation of opiate mediated myocardial preservation, investigation of circulatory arrest-induced coagulopathy, and utilization of computer-generated patient care data to examine perioperative risk factors.
Teaching activities include lectures and clinical instruction to medical students and residents. Dr. Benedict assists in the presentation of the annual transesophageal echocardiographic course.
Clinically, Dr. Benedict is a member of the adult cardiothoracic anesthesia team and Director of the Pre-operative Anesthesia Clinic Faculty team.
