1998 Traditions of Leadership Award

Norah Naughton, M.D. has received the 1998 Traditions of Leadership Award from the American Association of Medical Colleges and the University of Michigan Medical Center Dean’s Office. She accepted the award at the Faculty Women’s Career Development Series “Lessons in Leadership” meeting last October. The meeting was sponsored by the National Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health and the U-M Medical School Dean’s Office. Dr. Naughton was one of four women faculty to receive this national award for 1998.

The award is given to junior faculty women following a review of their curriculum vitae, letter of recommendation by the department chair, and a personal letter of intent. The purpose of the award is to promote the advancement of junior faculty in an academic setting. The award included attendance to the Professional Development Seminar for Junior Faculty Women in Santa Fe, N.M. The seminar focused on academic topics that included promotions, goal setting, networking, and conflict management.

Dr. Naughton has been the Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology and Quality Assurance since 1991. The U-M Department of Anesthesiology's graduating residents also named her the R. B. Sweet Instructor of the Year in 1998.
