Practical Updates in Anesthesiology

Puerto Vallarta Conference, Mexico

Take a break from the winter blahs, cold, and gray, and plan to attend “Practical Updates in Anesthesiology,” in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on January 31, 1999, through February 5, 1999. Featured guest speaker, Dr. Michael Roizen, Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Chicago Medical School, will present several topics including “Preoperative Evaluation of Patients" and "Vascular Surgery Update.” Members of the U-M Department of Anesthesiology will present topics that offer something for everyone. The program provides clinical updates in many areas, including pediatrics, pain management, bleeding and transfusion controversies, as well as quality assurance programs, and discussions of operating room and practice management.

A special feature will be the “Difficult Airway Management Workshop,” presented each day for participants. Dr. Allan Brown, Professor, of our department, has arranged with Olympus Corporation to put together a daily afternoon seminar to train physicians in airway management techniques. Lectures are scheduled during the mornings, leaving afternoons free for the many recreational opportunities and cultural aspects of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Brochures and information can be obtained by e-mail to Theodore J. Sanford, Jr., M.D., Associate Chair for Education, U-M, at tsanford@umich.edu, or look for the brochure in the semi-annual mailings from the ASA.

This will be the third annual CME meeting sponsored by the U-M Department of Anesthesiology and held in Puerto Vallarta. Attendance at the 1998 meeting was well over 100-double from the prior year! We look forward to seeing old friends and making new friends in 1999. Many thanks to our program planner Dr. Sanford.
